🌏 Can Beiwacht repeat his world-class G1 Golden Rose figure?
That’s the defining question. If he does, or even gets within a 1-2 lengths of it, he almost certainly wins. His 105.2 rating at these weights, stamped by blistering time from the front, was a genuine world-class performance, among the best by a 3YO we've seen in recent years. His previous peak of 97.5 in the G2 Run To The Rose, however, puts him right back with the pack. So was the Golden Rose a one-off spike, or the breakout of a star colt? Only time will tell. Supporting his case: The Chris Waller stable has trained six winners from 19 runners in this race since 2010, and runners that had their last start in Sydney have historically overachieved - making up only 36% of runners since 2010 but producing 65% of winners.
📈 Tentyris is a Colt on the up
He brought good 2YO form into the spring and, after a 94.4 rating first-up run, improved sharply to run a 98.9 peak winning the Gothic Stakes over 1200m at Caulfield, finishing powerfully (+3.3L rating last 200m), and looking to have more in hand. That’s the second-best lead-up performance in this field, and he profiles as a horse that could improve again in this race. A definite threat if Beiwacht regresses from his Golde Rose performance.
🎯 Beadman is set to peak
The Peter Snowden-trained Snitzel colt has had a preparation specifically targeted to peak on this day, and all signs suggest he’s ready to do just that. After a 90.3 rating first-up, he improved sharply second-up when an unlucky runner-up with a 95.2 that should’ve rated closer to 97.5–98 with even luck. That puts him right among the best of the form behind Beiwacht, and his recent trial up the Flemington straight was outstanding. It was the work of a horse ready to reach a big new peak. Like Beiwacht, he’s another that brings Sydney form to The Coolmore, which has historically been a strong pointer.
These top three colts look to have an edge over the others in terms of their overall profile and forecast potential in this race.
